Algonquin College Joins Map The System Canada 2022 - Global Student Competition

Map the System is a one-of-a-kind challenge that requires students to use a systems-thinking approach to demonstrate a deep understanding of a pressing social or environmental challenge. Deeply explore an issue that matters to you and share your findings with the world.

Key Dates:
  • Student Registration - Deadline Jan. 31, 2022
  • February/March - Project Work and Team Workshops
  • April 2022 - Final Project Submission
  • April 2022 - MTS Algonquin Finalists Selected
  • May 2022 - Online Canadian Finals Competition
  • June 2022 - Oxford Map the System Global Finals Competition 

Project Topics: The Map the System competition focusses on thematic social or environmental challenges in one of four track areas: Health, Climate, Economic and Social.

Limited Team Funding for Students: In addition to the global competition prizes, Algonquin College will make available funding for a limited number of teams, with team members eligible to receive an honorarium of $750 upon submission and acceptance of their team’s required presentation materials (systems map, research analysis and bibliography).

Student Team Eligibility: Each student team can have up to five team members. Participation is open to students from all Algonquin programs and disciplines. We highly recommend interdisciplinary teams and will host a meet and great session in late January (date TBD) to assist with interdisciplinary team building and team finalization.

Map The System Algonquin Contact: Map The System at Algonquin College is a joint collaboration between faculty from the Social Innovation Lab, the Human-Centred Design Institute, and the Business - Management and Entrepreneurship program. Also provided is project support and mentorship, as well as hosting a number of events with the teams on areas of importance throughout the process.
