Data Privacy Awareness Week 2023

January is Data Privacy Month at Algonquin College.

The College community is invited to participate in this campaign promoting awareness about information privacy from Jan. 23 to Jan. 27, 2023. This year’s theme is
“The Privacy Mind: Advancing the Privacy Culture.”


Activities will include awareness posts on myAC and social media highlighting tips on how to be privacy-aware.

For our first event for this year’s privacy activities, On Jan. 24, the College is excited to be co-hosting with other Ontario Colleges a free, in-person/live-streamed event designed explicitly for post-secondary institutions as part of our 2023 Data Privacy activities. The guest speaker for this event is Dan Michaluk from Borden Ladner Gervais ( BLG).

For our second event, on Jan. 26 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marketplace Food Court (cafeteria), the Algonquin College Privacy Office will hold a booth for all College employees and students to share information about data privacy. This event will include games, free backpacks, water bottles, Q&A, and more!

Don’t forget to complete the Online Information Security and Awareness Training to learn how to keep sensitive and valuable College information, including that of our learners and employees, safe. ABOUT DATA PRIVACY DAY

Data Privacy Day is an international effort held annually on Jan. 28 to empower individuals and businesses to respect privacy, safeguard data and enable trust.

As College employees, we are entrusted with personal information about learners, alums, donors, faculty, and staff. Respecting and protecting the confidentiality of this information is our shared responsibility.
